When I think of all the great teachers I’ve had, the ones I remember best were those who created a strong classroom community that I wanted to return too. Those teachers believed in us and in what they were doing as a profession. They taught me many skills I needed both in school and in life which is why I remember them so well. When I was younger they inspired me through learning and interaction and when I became older they opened my mind to new things. What attracts me to the teaching field is the ability to affect a child’s life in a way that may inspire them to do great things. The fact that I could motivate a child to grow up and become anything they want is amazing to me. I want my classroom to be a safe haven for all my students. Knowing I can provide an environment in my classroom where a child can feel safe and be who they truly are is motivation enough for me to show up and do my best every day. I believe it’s easiest to learn in an environment where you feel as if you can achieve anything. I think it’s best to have an open environment when learning so that students feel they can ask anything. It’s important that students understand they have achieved something no matter how little or much they learn, as long as they can apply it later in both their schoolwork and life. I’m entering the profession knowing the harsh realties of a teaching career, but I plan on pushing myself to always better my skills and to try and reach a personal connection with every student I have.

MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

“What should young people do with their lives today? Many things, obviously. But the most daring thing is to create stable communities in which the terrible disease of loneliness can be cured.”
― Kurt Vonnegut
